Ezekiel Machogu, the Cabinet Secretary for Education, has emphasized the crucial role of parental involvement in their children's education, urging parents to prioritize their children's academic journey. Machogu made these remarks during his visit to St. Paul’s Amukura Secondary School, underscoring the government's significant investment in the education sector, which accounts for nearly 30% of the national budget.
With a commitment to supporting education, the government has allocated Sh650 million this year alone, demonstrating its dedication to ensuring quality education for all children. Machogu highlighted the substantial efforts made by the government, including the employment of 59,750 teachers and the recent disbursement of Ksh35 million to schools.
Acknowledging that academic success requires dedication from parents, teachers, and students alike, Machogu emphasized the importance of hard work and sacrifice. He also noted the government's initiatives to broaden educational opportunities, particularly for students who may not pursue traditional university paths, by enhancing access to Technical and Vocational Training Institutions.
In a move to equip students with essential skills for employment, the government is set to provide Okame Technical Training Institute with 100 desktop computers and a digital laboratory. Machogu emphasized that students with technical expertise would have promising job prospects, particularly within government-led projects like the housing initiative.
Furthermore, Machogu highlighted collaborative efforts between Kenya and Germany, which have resulted in 250,000 job opportunities for Kenyan citizens. Additionally, he revealed that Vice President William Ruto has allocated funds for the renovation of school infrastructure, underscoring the government's commitment to improving learning environments.
Teso South MP Mary Emase echoed Machogu's sentiments, expressing her determination to restore the prestige of schools within her constituency, including St. Paul’s Amukura, St. Monica Chakol Girls, Kolanya Girls, and Kolanya Boys. She pledged to collaborate with school principals and relevant stakeholders to enhance academic performance across all schools in the constituency, promising a brighter future for students in the region.
